Recent Commissions and Updates!

With the beginning of the school year and all that comes with it, Artistic Endeavors has been really busy! All of our students are back from their summer vacations and well into a number of great creations! They are doing such a great job! As you all know from my last post (which unfortunately was quite some time ago due to the hectic-ness of a new school year!), we began September with the artwork of Jessica Kale in our gallery! The show was a huge success and a great experience for all who were involved!

At the same time, I had a number of commissions in the works. I was commissioned to paint a portrait of a beautiful baby boy. As you can see in the image below, the baby was to be wrapped in a blanket, with hydrangeas in the foreground, and a bright blue sky with some clouds in the background!

The painting turned out great! The likeness of the baby was really captured. The painting is 12"x16" done on a stretched canvas with oils.

Another commission that I completed was a sign for a farmer. He designed and drew the whole sign exactly as he wanted it, other than two additions he had me make, and I turned his drawing into a painting. So the whole concept behind this painting was his idea. The sign is 20"x10" done on masonite with acrylic paints, which was then coated with four coats of exterior grade varnish to protect it from all types of weather.

I also completed a wedding invitation commission. My client asked that I draw some artwork around the writing of the invitation as a sort of frame for it. I used the scroll that was present on the vellum covering that came with the invitation so as to incorporate the couples taste into the artwork. I also used colors that were going to be in the wedding combined with some of the autumn colors of the season. The piece was matted and framed to my clients specifications and I have been told that the bride and groom loved their gift! The overall piece looks absolutely beautiful.

I did the artwork on the invitation with colored pencil to give it a soft, well-blended effect.

Overall, the past couple of months have been packed with tons of artwork! All of my students have been creating great new artwork each and every week! They are beginning to branch into new mediums such as oil pastels, and new subject matter, such as the human form! It is so exciting to see the minds of young artists at work every day!
